Last sunday was the first time in my life that i went
Hari Raya Visiting with all my working collegues! Altogether, we visited 7 different houses during the entire day. Lucky we had 2 cars to transport us around as we travelled from jurong to yew tee, to tampines and woodlands. haha.
I learnt alot about the Malay culture through this visiting and it is really different compared to the chinese culture as what we celebrate on chinese new year. Every house that we visited, they will prepare TONS of food. not just home-made cakes and cookies, but cooked food like lontong, curry, randang, noodles, chicken wing and some which i dun really know the names. And its considered rude if you do not eat. so no matter how full you are, you got to eat a little of everything. They take pride in preparing and cooking lots of food and drinks for their guests which is not just snacks and cookies like we have during CNY. But i must say, the food were all very delicious and i was really really super duper full by the 4th house. but still, for respect i tasted more various dishes by the next few houses. and one of my collegue's was so sweet to prepare brownie and ice cream for us when we went to her place! (:
besides that, not only the married have to give out green packets. so long as you are working and that you have a stable income, you got to give green packets to little ones or children who are studying. So i saw all my un-married collegues giving out packets to other children. haha. lucky we chinese do not have this custom and we can collect red-packets for longer period of time. lol.
Apart from that, i really enjoyed myself visiting their houses, getting to know my collegues better by chit chatting, cam-whoring and disturbing one another. haha. And it was so cute that all of us, even the chinese collegues like me who went visiting to dress in Malay traditional clothes. (: and my collegue lend me this
pretty blue outfit i lovee! ((:
